How filament orders are packed for courier
Filament needs to arrive round, dry and ready to print. We pack each spool to suit South African courier handling, with care taken for dust, moisture and rough transit between depots. That matters in coastal areas like Cape Town and Durban where humidity can affect storage if the parcel is left open too long.
Before dispatch, the team checks the spool size, colour and quantity against the order. Spools are then secured so they do not shift inside the box. If you order more than one spool, we separate and stabilise them to reduce rubbing and tangling during transit.
- Spools are boxed to protect the edges and centre hub
- Packaging is arranged to reduce movement inside the carton
- Jobs are labelled clearly for easy sorting at the courier hub
- We can add extra packing where a load is travelling longer distances
Nationwide dispatch from Epping, Cape Town
All filament courier orders leave from our Epping base in Cape Town. Orders going to Johannesburg, Pretoria, Gqeberha, Bloemfontein, Polokwane, Nelspruit and other centres are sent through a courier service that covers the whole country. If you are collecting from one of the local areas, you can also arrange collection where applicable.
Dispatch timing depends on when payment clears and whether the order is in stock. If a spool is ready to go, it usually moves out quickly. If your order includes a larger quantity or mixed colours, there may be a short prep time while the team checks and packs the full set.
- Nationwide courier delivery available
- Local collection can be arranged from selected areas
- Orders are released once payment and stock checks are complete
- Large orders may need extra packing and labelling time
Lead times and what affects delivery
Courier lead times vary by destination and by the time the parcel leaves Cape Town. Major centres are usually quicker than outlying towns, and regional areas may take an extra day or two. Weather, depot volumes and public holidays can also affect delivery, especially during busy periods.
For urgent printing jobs, it helps to place your order early in the day and give us the full delivery address with the suburb, postal code and any access notes. This reduces delays at the courier side and helps avoid a missed drop if your business park or estate has controlled entry. If load-shedding or local access issues affect your area, tell us upfront so we can note it on the waybill.
What to check before you order filament
A good delivery starts with the right specification. Before placing your order, check the filament diameter, colour, material type and the quantity you need for your printers. If you are not sure what suits your machine, our team can help you match the material to your print settings and the finish you want.
It also helps to plan storage. Filament should be kept in a cool dry place, away from direct sun and damp floors. In coastal areas, keep the sealed bag or container closed until you are ready to use the spool. That small step can save you from poor extrusion and stringing later on.
- Confirm diameter and material before checkout
- Check spool quantity and colour consistency for batch work
- Store unused filament in sealed packaging
- Keep it off concrete floors and out of direct sun
What happens if a parcel is delayed or damaged
Once your order has been handed to the courier, tracking is used to follow the parcel through the network. If the delivery takes longer than expected, start by checking the tracking movement and the consignee details. In many cases the delay is at a depot scan point or because the driver needs a clearer address or gate instruction.
If the carton arrives damaged, do not open it immediately if the damage is severe. Take photos of the outer box, the label and the condition of the parcel before moving the contents. This helps with any courier query and makes it easier for us to look at the packing record and advise the next step. We treat these issues seriously because filament can be affected by crush damage even if the spool still looks fine from outside.
How to keep your filament in good condition after delivery
Once your parcel arrives, unpack it soon and store the spools properly. If you are not using the filament straight away, leave it in the sealed bag or move it into an airtight container with a desiccant packet. This is especially useful for workshops near the coast or in areas with damp winters.
When printing from a newly delivered spool, check that it feeds smoothly through the guide and that the surface is clean. If the outer wrap has shifted a little during travel, unwind a short length and reseat it neatly before printing. A careful unpacking routine keeps the material in better shape and helps you avoid wasted prints.
- Open and inspect the parcel soon after delivery
- Keep unused filament sealed or in an airtight container
- Use desiccant where possible
- Recheck feed path before starting a long print job
