Our history

PETG started trading in 2011 in Epping, Cape Town with a simple focus: supply dependable PETG sheets and filament, then back it up with proper cutting and honest advice. From the first order to nationwide courier runs, the business has grown by listening to manufacturers, makers and design teams who need material that arrives right first time.

Our history

2011: a practical start in Epping

In 2011, PETG began in Epping with a small team and a clear idea of what local customers were asking for. People needed PETG sheet that was dependable, easy to work with and suited to South African conditions, from hot inland workshops to damp coastal storerooms. The first year was about proving that the material could be supplied consistently, with accurate cuts and useful advice, rather than just selling stock and hoping for the best.

That early period shaped the way the company still works today. Orders were handled carefully, sheets were cut to size where needed, and every job had to make sense for the customer’s real application. Whether it was a fabrication shop in Cape Town or a prototype team in another province, the focus stayed on getting the basics right.

2012 to 2014: building trust order by order

As more customers started placing repeat orders, the business expanded its cutting services and improved the way jobs were measured, labelled and packed. This was the stage where PETG moved from handling a few standard requests to supporting more varied work, including small batch cutting, strip cutting and panel cutting for practical use in workshops and studios.

By then, the team was also getting regular requests for sheet protection, cleaner edges and simple job notes to make installation easier. Those requests mattered. Small details save time on site, and they reduce waste in a market where every metre and every Rand counts.

  • More accurate straight cuts for repeat production work
  • Custom sizing for display, fabrication and prototyping
  • Film left on where customers wanted extra surface protection
  • Edge deburring for cleaner handling and finishing

2015 to 2017: adding process and scale

Once the core cutting work was running smoothly, PETG invested more attention in process. The business refined how jobs moved through the workshop, from enquiry and confirmation through to cutting, hole marking, packing and collection. That helped when larger orders came in, because the team could handle multiple sheets or batches without losing track of detail.

During these years, the customer base widened beyond Cape Town. More firms in manufacturing, design and product development were looking for a supplier who could handle both material supply and neat preparation. The result was a steadier workflow and a stronger reputation for practical service. Morne van Rensburg guided that growth with a hands-on approach, while the team developed clear roles that made daily operations more reliable.

  • Production planning improved for larger batch work
  • Courier packing became part of the normal workflow
  • Job labelling was introduced to reduce errors on busy days
  • Material advice became a standard part of customer support

2018 to 2020: serving more towns and tighter timelines

As customer demand grew, PETG became known not only in Epping, but also across collection areas such as Montague Gardens, Bellville, Parow, Somerset West, Paarl, Stellenbosch and Claremont. That spread mattered because different towns have different needs. A sign shop in the northern suburbs may want quick turnaround, while a maker in the winelands may need careful packing for transport and storage.

The business also adapted to tougher operating conditions. Load-shedding meant jobs had to be planned properly, and material handling had to stay organised even when schedules changed. Customers needed dependable lead times and straight communication. The team answered that with better coordination between sales, production and logistics, which kept orders moving even when the day did not go exactly to plan.

2021 to 2023: filament, courier work and more specialised requests

By this stage, PETG was serving a broader mix of professionals and hobby users, including those working with 3D-printing filament as well as sheet material. Couriered nationwide supply became an important part of the service, especially for customers outside the Western Cape who still wanted the same level of consistency and support. The packaging side of the business grew more important too, because a courier trip can test both material and preparation.

That period also brought more detailed requests. Some customers needed holes marked for assembly. Others wanted film left on for protection during fabrication or transport. Some were ordering short runs for testing, while others were placing regular production jobs. PETG responded by keeping the service practical and flexible, without making the process complicated.

  • Nationwide courier packing for filament and sheet orders
  • Hole marking for fabrication and fitting work
  • Small batch and larger batch cutting for different production needs
  • Support for both professionals and serious enthusiasts

Today: a Cape Town base with national reach

Today, PETG still operates from Epping, Cape Town, with a team that knows the day-to-day realities of trade work. Morne van Rensburg leads the business as Managing Director, with Ayanda Mkhize in sales, Jared Petersen in production, Zanele Ndlovu in customer support, Ruan Botha on cutting, and Tumi Molefe handling logistics. That structure keeps the company close to the work, from first enquiry to final packout.

The history of the business is really a history of steady improvement. It started with one clear material and one practical promise, and it has grown by doing the small things well: straight cuts, careful packing, sensible advice and service that fits local conditions. In a market where delays, waste and poor communication cost time, that approach still matters. Customers can use the enquiry form on the contact page to start a job, and the team takes it from there.
