Strip Cutting for Neat, Repeatable Widths
Strip cutting is used when you need long, narrow pieces from PETG sheet, usually for edging, guide rails, spacers, trims and other details where a straight, consistent width matters. We cut strips from standard sheet sizes or from material already supplied for a job, with the width set to suit your application and the tolerances your work allows.
In practice, this service is useful for fabrication shops, display makers, model builders and production teams that need multiple pieces at the same width. It saves time on hand trimming and helps reduce waste, especially where the same size is needed again and again.
- Common strip widths: 5 mm to 300 mm
- Typical thickness range: 0.5 mm to 12 mm
- Suitable for clear, coloured and opaque PETG sheet
- Available for single jobs or repeated batch runs
What the Strip Cutting Service Includes
Every strip cutting job is prepared with the finished use in mind. We can keep film on if you want added surface protection during handling, or remove it where a clean working edge is required straight away. If the strips will be used as visible trims, we can also deburr the cut edge to reduce sharpness and improve handling.
For jobs that need consistent downstream assembly, we can label packs by width, quantity and material spec. That makes it easier to issue stock to different teams or to repeat the same order later without confusion.
- Width setting to your required size
- Repeat cuts for matched pieces
- Optional film left on for protection
- Edge deburring where suitable
- Job labelling for packs and batches
How We Handle the Cutting Process
Strip cutting starts with the sheet size, thickness and finish you need. We then confirm the finished width, quantity and any handling notes such as grain direction, film retention or whether the strips will be folded, glued or mechanically fixed later. If a drawing or simple sketch is provided, we use that to confirm the layout before cutting begins.
The cutting itself is done in a controlled setup to keep widths consistent across the batch. For long runs, we plan the cut sequence so that offcuts are reduced and the pieces stay square. Where needed, we can also combine strip cutting with panel cuts, hole marking or custom sizing on the same job.
- Confirm width, quantity and thickness
- Check whether film stays on or comes off
- Plan the cut sequence to limit waste
- Cut, inspect and pack by batch
Turnaround for Cape Town Collection and Nationwide Courier
Turnaround depends on sheet thickness, number of strips and the amount of finishing required. Small strip jobs are often completed quickly, while larger or more detailed batches may take longer, especially when multiple widths are needed in one order. If a job is urgent, tell us the deadline up front so we can assess the best slot in production.
Collection is available from Epping and selected collection areas, while courier packing is arranged for customers elsewhere in South Africa. Strip packs are protected so they travel well, but where the order is long or particularly narrow we may pack it in a way that helps prevent bending in transit.
- Collection from Epping, Cape Town
- Courier packing available nationwide
- Urgent jobs quoted according to current capacity
- Packaging planned around length, width and finish
Pricing Based on Width, Quantity and Handling
Strip cutting is priced according to the sheet material, the number of strips required, the finished width, and any extra handling such as edge deburring, job labelling or special packing. Narrower strips usually take more setup and more careful handling, so the price can change depending on how many cuts are needed and how much offcut remains.
For repeat production, we can quote on a batch basis so you can budget more accurately. If you are comparing options, it helps to send the sheet size, thickness, desired width and the total number of pieces. That lets us advise whether strip cutting is the most economical route or whether another cut pattern would save material.
- Material type and thickness affect the quote
- Quantity has a direct impact on setup time
- Extra finishing is priced as part of the job
- Batch pricing can suit regular orders
When Strip Sizes Need Rechecking or Replacement
PETG strips hold up well in everyday fabrication, but they should still be checked at regular intervals if they are used as wear parts, spacers in moving assemblies or components exposed to heat, cleaning chemicals or outdoor weather. Coastal humidity around Cape Town, as well as UV exposure and repeated flexing, can change how a strip performs over time.
A practical maintenance check every 6 to 12 months is usually enough for most light industrial and display uses. In harsher conditions, or where the strips carry load or sit near heat, check them more often for edge wear, warping or surface marks. If the original measurements are still on file, replacement is simpler and quicker for the next run.
- Check for warping, surface wear and fit
- Inspect more often in heat, sun or chemical exposure
- Replace sooner where strips carry load
- Repeat orders are easier with recorded specs
